The Department of Education is offering further supports to 36 disadvantaged schools in the midlands.
Five urban primary schools in Laois, three in Westmeath and one in Offaly will see a one point reduction in the student-teacher ratio to 23:1.
Two secondary schools in Laois and three each in Westmeath and Offaly will also see a five per cent increase in funding for the School Completion Programme, to support the attendance and participation of vulnerable students.
