Garda Watchdog Probes Death Of Man In Mullingar

The case has been referred to the independent policing ombudsman.

The Garda watchdog is launching an investigation into the sudden death of a 34-year-old man in Westmeath on Saturday.

The man became unwell following an interaction with An Garda Síochána in Mullingar.

He was taken by ambulance to Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar, where he was later pronounced dead.

The case has been referred to the independent policing ombudsman, Fiosrú, under new legislation.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses and any video footage from Main Street in Mullingar on Saturday morning.
