A man in his 30s has died in the Portlaoise Prison from a suspected overdose.
The Gardaí, The Irish Prison Service, and the Office of the Inspector of Prisons are all investigating the circumstances of the death of an inmate, from a suspected overdose, at Midlands Prison.
A man in his 30s was found unresponsive in his cell at the Portlaoise prison on Sunday morning.
The prison service has confirmed the death but is underlining that it is the Coroner's Office that will confirm the cause of death.
