A man in his 20s was seriously injured in the incident.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into an assault in Westmeath.
Officers say they received reports of violent disorder involving multiple people on Austin Friar Street in Mullingar at around 5pm on Friday evening.
A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital for treatment of what are believed to be serious injuries sustained during the course of the incident.
Investigators are also looking into a crash involving two cars and a van in the same area at around 5.10pm.
They say no other injuries have been reported.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to either incident, particularly those with camera or dashcam footage, to get in touch with Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000.
