A 23 year old man has been taken to hospital.
Gardaí are investigating after a man was stabbed in Westmeath over the weekend.
The incident occurred in the Bower View area of Athlone at about 3.50 on Saturday morning.
The 23 year-old man was taken to Tullamore Regional Hospital, and is now believed to be in a stable condition.
In a separate incident at the same location, a 37 year-old man was arrested after becoming aggressive towards gardaí and Emergency Services.
He has since been released, with a file due to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
