A driver in Laois was caught speeding 93km/h over the speed limit.
Almost six hundred people have been arrested for drink or drug driving so far in December.
Gardai say during Christmas week, between Monday 22nd December and Sunday 28th December, 149 people were caught driving under the influence.
Meanwhile over 4,600 drivers were detected for speeding offences with one motorist in Laois clocked at 167 km/h in an 80 zone on the Killeshin Road near Crettyard.
There will be more than two thousand police checkpoints in operation in the coming days as part of the Garda New Year road safety appeal.
