Government Needs To Last Until April For Taoiseach To Match Brian Cowen's Time In Office

John Bruton had the shortest term as Taoiseach.

John Bruton will tomorrow take back his title as the Taoiseach who has served the fewest days in history.

His Fine Gael party colleague Leo Varadkar has matched his record of 924 days in office today.

The government would have to last until the middle of April in the New Year for the Taoiseach to match Offaly's Brian Cowen's time in office, according to the Irish Times.

But Mr. Varadkar has indicated he will spend the Christmas holidays considering the timing of the next general election.
