A Laois-Offaly TD brought the concerns to the Dáil.
The Taoiseach has said the government will consider raising the cap on the SUSI grant's student earnings threshold.
Michéal Martin was responding to concerns raised in the Dáil by Laois-Offaly TD Carol Nolan, who says the current cap of €4,500 isn't sufficient for those in third-level education.
This follows recent changes to the SUSI grant scheme, which saw an increase of €200 to the maintenance grant, the income threshold was raised by €1,000 and the distance for the non-adjacent rate was reduced from 45km to 30km.
