High Court Quashes Lissywollen Ministerial Order

Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan responds to today's judgement.

The Justice Minister accepts the State's errors in planning for asylum seeker accommodation will "have to be confronted".

It comes after a High Court decision today to finally quash a Ministerial order from Roderic O'Gorman last year to establish a large scale accommodation centre in Athlone.

Local councillors have successfully argued the order failed to meet the required planning and environmental laws.

The judgement means if the government can't produce corrective legislation within four months, the site will be deemed illegal.

Those familiar with the case say it is highly unlikely the legislation will be delivered.
