A third of all deaths in prisons last year took place in the Midlands.
Of the 31 inmates who died while in custody, 9 occurred in Midlands Prison, with one in Portlaoise Prison.
The Office of the Inspector of Prisons' annual report for 2024 states conditions for some inmates are "inhumane" and "degrading".
