The family of Maria Fitzpatrick have reached a settlement in the High Court.
Settling an action in the High Court is not for the faint hearted - that's the view of a solicitor representing the family of a Westmeath woman who died from cervical cancer.
Mother-of-four Maria Fitzpatrick from Collinstown passed away in 2009, with her husband Kevin later seeking legal action.
A settlement was reached this week after Portiuncula Hospital, which handled two of Ms Fitzpatrick's smear tests, publicly apologised to the family for missing a chance to diagnose her sooner.
Niamh Ni Mhurchu from Callan Tansey Solicitors represented Mr Fitzpatrick in the case.
