Portiuncula Nursing Home in Multyfarnham was found non-compliant in four areas.
A Westmeath nursing home has been found non-compliant over its staffing, management practices, record keeping, and fire safety control.
A new report from HIQA follows an unannounced inspection of Portiuncula Nursing Home in Multyfarnham in March this year after unsolicited information was passed to the healthcare watchdog.
Staff at the 56 person capacity facility were found to be kind and respectful towards residents who told inspectors they feel safe and enjoy living at the Westmeath centre.
While unsolicited information given to HIQA was not substantiated following the visit.
However, the centre failed its inspection in four regulation areas.
Concerns are being highlighted around overnight staffing.
96 falls were recorded over the course of 2024, with 62 of them taking place between the hours of 8pm and 8am.
Portiuncula Nursing Home was found to be non-compliant in governance and management after there was found to be a lack of appropriate staff training.
While staff at the facility failed to notify the chief inspector of two incidents.
There was also a substantial failure in compliance in fire safety with a fire door wedged open, a lack of signage to indicate the location of the gas shut-off, and a lack of adequate lighting in the event of a night time evacuation.
The centre is now committing to increase staffing, ensure notifiable incidents are passed on to the chief inspector, and a wide range of corrective measures regarding fire safety have been outlined by Portiuncula Nursing Home.
