It was found to be significantly in breach of fire regulations.
A nursing home in Westmeath has been found non-compliant over fire safety regulations after an unannounced inspection by HIQA.
The Newbrook Nursing Home in Mullingar was found to be compliant or substantially compliant in 11 of the 12 regulations assessed.
HIQA's report found the centre provides its residents with a good quality of life, with staff being described as courteous and were observed delivering person-centred care.
Residents spoke of exercising choice and control over their day and being satisfied with activities available.
However the 117 person capacity centre was found to be significantly in breach of fire regulations.
Large holes in walls were found in high risk areas and what appeared to be an inadequate material and detail had been applied around some openings.
While the home's infection control policies were also cited in the report as an area for improvement.
Actions have already been taken to address the non-compliance, with fire hazards removed, fire sealant has been used where required, and a fire door survey has been carried out.
While infection control training has been ramped up for staff at the facility.
