Figures released to Aontú show nearly 300,000 appointments were cancelled nationally in 2024.
The Midlands is bucking the trend of ever increasing hospital appointment cancellations.
New figures acquired by Aontú show that nationally, there were nearly 300 thousand appointments cancelled, an increase of more than 5% on the year previous.
However, over the same time period there have been 27% less cancellations in the Midlands hospitals overall.
Mullingar have had the most in the last two years, from 5,655 in 2023 down to just over 3,600 last year.
Cancellations have dropped by a quarter in Tullamore, while they've gone up by 25% in Portlaoise from a low base of 612 in 2023, to 814 in 2024.
