Housing commencements in the Midlands have continued to collapse in comparison to last year.
New figures from the Department of Housing shows just 71 notices were issued across Laois, Offaly and Westmeath in October - compared to 188 last year.
Laois still has the biggest decline with 45 houses started last month, down from 104 in 2024.
There was only 12 in Westmeath,down from 49, and only 14 in Offaly in comparison to 35 last October.
1,441 commencement notices for new homes were lodged nationally last month, the second highest number recorded this year.
