27 people are on trolleys in the midlands today.

The interim CEO of the HSE says he can't guarantee hospital emergency departments won't see record numbers on trollies this winter.

There are currently 495 patients waiting on trollies in hospitals around the country today.

27 people are on trolleys in the midlands - 4 in Tullamore, 12 in Portlaoise and 11 in Mullingar.

There've been reports of some people waiting up to 24 hours to be seen for emergency care.

Interim CEO of the HSE, Stephen Mulvany, says he expects the situation at emergency departments could worsen in the coming months:
