The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association is welcoming the government's plans to put some beef into intervention.

The Portlaoise-based organisation says most is continuing to sell well, despite the ongoing pandemic.

However, demand for steak cuts has dropped and the Agriculture Minister is now looking towards taking it off the market.

ICSA President Edmond Phelan feels this would give farmers breathing space during the covid crisis.
