There will be an increased Garda presence in our communities to tackle abuse towards retail workers over the next few years.
Offaly TD Tony McCormack says it's a measure under the Government's Retail Crime plan.
It follows a new survey which finds up to 70% of workers are subject to abusive behaviour from customers when on the job.
One in three says it happens at least once a week, with a third of respondents saying the abuse was targeted at their race or ethnicity.
