Enoch Burkes Teaching Inquiry Delayed

The case is on complaints from his repeated attendance at a Westmeath School.

A Teaching Council inquiry into allegations of professional misconduct against Enoch Burke has faced delays today.

The case centres on complaints arising from his repeated attendance at Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath, despite court orders barring him from the premises.

Today’s fitness-to-teach hearing in Maynooth, County Kildare, was delayed shortly after proceedings got underway.

At the outset, Enoch Burke complained that three members of his family had been asked to provide their names to security staff when entering the Teaching Council building.

Mr Burke described the security personnel as “intimidating, well-built men in black” and argued that, as the inquiry was being held in public, people should be free to come and go without providing details.

The inquiry heard that the hearing was open to up to 40 members of the public and that attendees were not required to provide their names.
Proceedings have since been adjourned and are due to resume this afternoon.
