Drop In Numbers Attending Primary School Over The Next 15 Years Is A "Perfect Opportunity"

Class size should reduce in-line with decrease, Laois rep says.

A projected drop in the number of children attending primary school in the next 15 years is the perfect opportunity to reduce class sizes.

That's according to the INTO's Joe McKeown - with the Department of Education expecting numbers to decrease by 20 per cent as Ireland's birth rate falls.

The union's rep for Laois says the government cannot let this opportunity go to waste and, with the right planning, believes our pupil/teacher ratio could be on par with the European average in the next five to six years.
