Irish People Encouraged To Watch Rare Venus-Jupiter Conjunction This Evening

The night sky's two brightest planets are set to align closely.

People across Ireland are being encouraged to look west tonight to catch Venus and Jupiter appearing in close proximity. 

The two brightest planets in the night sky will reach their closest point in an event known as a conjunction. 

Astronomy Ireland says it will be one of the most impressive sights visible to the naked eye for years.

Seanie Morris, from the Midlands Astronomy Club says the best viewing conditions are expected between 10pm and 11pm:
