Ireland's First Fire Analysis Shows Men Most Likely Fatalities In Ireland

The figures were taking from coroner's reports over a two year period.

Almost double the number of men than women died as a result of fires in Ireland between 2014 and 2016 - while over three quarters of those who died in that time were single. 

Those are the main findings of Ireland's first analysis of fire related deaths by the Health Research Board.

It total there was 106 fatalities from 101 fires in that time.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Westmeath County Council Pat Hunt says the figures hightlight a worrying area for rural residents:
