It says the crossing sees increasing incidents of trespass during the summer.
Irish Rail is urging motorists and pedestrians to use a Westmeath level crossing safely, and be aware of potential dangers.
It says the lake crossing, north of Mullingar at the shores of Lough Owel, sees an increase in incidents of railway trespass via the crossing in the summer months.
Train drivers have reported people swimming, sunbathing and fishing trespassing on the line.
The company says there have been 28 incidents recorded at level crossings around the country so far this year, 12 of which have resulted in damage or injury.
Irish Rail's Barry Kenny says they're working closely with Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority to get the information across.
