Irish Woman Nominated For Major Position In Biden Administration

Her father was from Athlone.

President Elect Joe Biden has nominated the former US Ambassador to the United Nations, Dublin-born Samantha Power, to lead the US Agency for International Development.

He describes her as a 'world renowned voice of conscience and moral clarity'.

It's also expected the position will be elevated to membership of the National Security Council in the United States.

The appointment will have to be confirmed by the US Senate.
