They’re accused of assisting him.
Jozef Puska’s sisters-in-law claim they didn’t know, or believe, he had murdered Ashling Murphy when they burned his clothes in the fireplace.
They’re accused of assisting him, but in closing speeches today, their barristers urged the jury to acquit due to a lack of knowledge of what they were doing.
Jozef Puska’s two brothers, Marek and Lubomir, are accused of withholding information from gardai in relation to the investigation into Ashling Murphy’s murder.
Lubomir Puska’s barrister, Kathleen Leader SC, told the jury today that her client didn’t withhold information, but rather delayed disclosing it.
She said he initially lied, but later rectified that when he came to terms with what his brother did.
Once that happened, she said he replaced the bonds of family, brotherhood, and love, with his duties to society as a whole, and squarely supported the prosecution.
The case against his wife, Viera Gaziova, and Marek Puska’s wife, Jozefina Grundzova, is that they assisted Jozef Puska by burning the clothes he was wearing when he murdered Ashling Murphy.
Their lawyers both urged the jury to acquit on the grounds that their clients simply did what they were told to do, without question, and didn’t know until later that what they had done was wrong.
