Five men were sentenced to a combined total of 66 years in jail yesterday.
The Rape Crisis Network of Ireland has described as 'shocking' the way a 17 year old girl was 'dehumanised' during a prolonged sexual attack in the midlands.
Five men were yesterday sentenced to a combined total of 66 years in jail over the assault in December 2016.
The girl, who was a leaving cert student at the time, was attacked after she took a lift from a group who she wrongly presumed were her friends following a night out.
She was raped by four of the men, and sexually assaulted by another man, in various locations around the midlands.
The men were aged between 17 and 19 at the time of the attacks.
Executive Director of Rape Crisis Network of Ireland, Cliona Sadlier, says Justice Tara Burns sent a clear message about the depravity of the men's behaviour:
