Junior Minister Believes St.Brigid's Day Should Be National Holiday

Kildare-South TD Martin Heydon says we don't have enough public holidays.

A Government Minister says there aren't enough public holidays, and believes today should be included.

The first of February is St Brigid's Day, the first day of spring in the pre-Christian Gaelic calendar. 

It's thought Brigid was originally worshipped as a pagan goddess -- which means the tradition dates back to the Iron Age and beyond.
