Justice Minister and Laois TD Charlie Flanagan says the comments made by Verona Murphy about asylum seekers are unacceptable.
The Fine Gael by-election candidate for Wexford had previously said some asylum seekers would need to be "de-programmed" before coming to Ireland, but has since apologised.
Fianna Fail's Justice Spokesperson Jim O'Callaghan says some people in Fine Gael need to be reminded that it is a criminal offence to make comments which are likely to stir up hatred against certain groups.
