Expansion of refuge for those fleeing from domestic violence situations in the midlands is being delayed due to a lack of a site.

Esker House Domestic Abuse Supports Service in Athlone have five units operating, and are aiming to open three more when appropriate sites become available.

They have been forced to turn away around 200 people in the last six years each year due to not having enough space.
