There's over 25 children on the waiting list.
People living in the community should be prioritised over past pupil relatives when it comes to primary school admissions.
That's according to Laois Councillor Aisling Moran who is calling on the Department of Education to issue guidance to schools.
In one case in the South East of the county there's over 25 children on the waiting list.
In that school, those living locally are only considered after children who's family had previously gone to the school.
