The Waste Enforcement Officer for the council says public dumping is the main problem facing her team.
Consumerism is fueling a public dumping epidemic in Laois, according to the local authority in the county.
The waste enforcement department in the council recently organised a waste amnesty on old bicycles.
Last year, around 90 bikes were collected in the county, and repaired by recovering addicts and those in long-term unemployment at Frontline Bikes in Dublin.
Once repaired, these bicycles were then donated to children in Tanzania, and to the Portlaoise school bike library.
Waste Enforcement Officer for Laois County Council, Kim O'Meara, says her department struggle with public dumping first and foremost.
She says the council is working to help people take more responsible decisions with their own waste, and their own shopping habits:
