Works to upgrade the Garda Headquarters in Laois are now underway.
The Taoiseach turned the sod on the site in Portlaoise earlier today.
The new station will be built at the back of the existing building and will be roughly three times the size.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris also attended the event.
