The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth is distributing 67 million euro to projects across the country.
427,000 euro is going to Laois/Offaly, with their neighbours in Longford/Westmeath receiving double that, and over a million euro going to the Kilkenny/Carlow region.
Youth Development Officer with Laois Offaly ETB, Joe Thompson says they're still feeling the effects of austerity cuts in the Recession, while funding has not been increased to reflect the population growth.
He says they're hoping to create a new youth project in the area this year, but they're working off a limited budget:
