Laois Senator Adds To Government Criticism On Backtracked SNA Cuts

Sinn Fein's Maria McCormack believes it's "ludicrous" the government is failing to take responsibility.

The Government is coming in for heavy criticism over its backtracking on SNA cuts.

The Taoiseach says cabinet ministers never signed off on a review of Special Needs Assistant allocations.

Longford Westmeath TD Fine Gael TD Micheal Carrigy is blaming department officials for issuing letters warning of reductions to almost 200 schools across the country.

No cuts will now take place this year, with €19 million in extra funding announced this week.

Meanwhile protests against a lack of support for SNAs are set to go ahead across the country.

Demonstrations are planned for the Market Square in Mullingar, the Town Hall in Edenderry, and St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Portlaoise at 5pm this evening.
