Construction is progressing at the site of a former major factory in Laois.
The council have purchased six acres of the former Avon site at the Canal Road Business Park in Portarlington for €500,000 where all four newly created serviced plots have been sold.
Buyers include local firm Fletchers, Derry-based P McVey Building Systems, and Dublin company Priority Construction, with works supported by €1 million in Just Transition funding.
Sinn Féin Councillor Aidan Mullins believes the project will deliver significant economic benefits and new jobs for Portarlington.
He says the development will reduce commuter dependency, keeping employment local:
