Laois Senator Wants State Action To Protect Nursing Home Residents

HIQA is applying for changes to Dromnín Nursing Home's registration.

A Laois Senator wants the State to step in to protect nursing home residents who may lose their home in the near future. 

HIQA is applying to have Dromnín Nursing Home's registration cancelled or changed on the grounds there is reasonable grounds of risk of life or welfare of the residents at the facility. 

A report from the health watchdog saw the home fail an inspection in eight of nine regulation areas this summer. 

There are currently 49 people living there and Sinn Fein's Maria McCormack says their future needs to be addressed immediately:
