Construction on the new facility was due to start this year.
A legal challenge has delayed the development of a new advanced manufacturing plant in the midlands.
IDA Ireland has confirmed an application for a judicial review regarding the tender process for the construction of the new facility at the IDA Business Park at Marlinstown, Mullingar has been lodged with the High Court.
Construction of the facility was due to get underway this year.
The site for the plant was purchased over a decade ago, and there's been a number of campaigns to get the project moving.
Fine Gael Councillor Andrew Duncan says the local economy will suffer for the delay:
There's fears the legal challenge could delay progress on the plant by as long as two years.
Mullingar Chamber expects it will create up to 200 jobs when it's finished.
Its Spokesperson on Economic Development, Enterprise and Tourism, John Geoghegan, wants to see the project moved along:
In a statement to Midlands 103, an IDA Ireland Spokesperson says:
"IDA Ireland can confirm that an application for a judicial review regarding the tender process for the construction of the Advanced Manufacturing unit on the IDA Business Park at Marlinstown, Mullingar has been lodged with the High Court. As this is a matter before the High Court, IDA Ireland is precluded from making any further comment at this stage."
