Local Authority Urged To Pedestrianise Smaller Streets

One councillor believes the measure will allow businesses to provide outdoor seating.

Pedestrianising smaller streets is being suggested by a Westmeath councillor, to give greater space for social distancing.

The Green Party's Hazel Smyth is asking Westmeath County Council to liaise with local businesses and determine whether some streets could be closed at particular times to allow businesses to provide outdoor seating.

She believes it would allow people to socialise in towns, while helping pubs, restaurants and shops to cope with the covid-19 restrictions.

Councillor Smyth feels it is possible, but is looking for input from business-owners:
