The land is currently owned by the Government Housing Agency.
The location for the midland's newest Primary Health Care Centre has been chosen.
The facility will be based on the Portlaoise Road in Mountrath, next to Mighty Mol's Filling Station, according to the Laois Offaly Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming.
He says the current health centre site doesn't have enough space for expansion, despite it being at full capacity and typically very busy.
The land for the new facility is already owned by the Government Housing Agency and work is underway to transfer to site over to the HSE.
Laois Offaly TD Sean Fleming says:
This is very welcome news for this well-needed facility in Mountrath. I will continue to keep in contact with the HSE and the Department of Health to ensure that this new health centre comes to fruition.
"The land is already owned by the Government Housing Agency and progress is being made in transferring the site to the HSE. I look forward to this important new development for Mountrath proceeding to a planning application, the tendering process and finally the construction of the new Primary Health Care Centre in Mountrath."
