Lockdown Affecting Movement Habits In The Midlands Much Less Than In Cities

Google and Apple have been collecting smartphone tracking data.

The lockdown has affected movement in the midlands much less than in large, urban areas, according to data from Google.

The internet giant is using smartphone tracking figures to look at how people are behaving during the covid-19 crisis.

Apple data shows, at the beginning of May, driving activity was a third of that in January, but has now risen again to almost 60 per cent.

However, Adrian Weckler, Technology Editor with the Irish Independent, says Google's charts show the movement habits of people in less populated counties in the midlands hasn't changed that much:
