The current, partially completed structure has been used for anti-social behaviour recently.
A partially completed hotel could be demolished to make way for a new secondary school in the midlands.
The proposed Oaklands Community College building in Edenderry would have the capacity for 1,000 students, if given the green light.
Laois Offaly Education and Training Board has applied for planning permission to demolish a partially completed hotel in Edenderry.
The structure has been subject to issues with drugs and anti-social behaviour, according to Fine Gael Councillor Noel Cribbin.
If granted approval, that move will make way for a near 11,000 square metre, two-storey post-primary school, which will serve as the new building for Oaklands Community College.
The existing premises is currently enrolling 847 students, but is now at capacity, and has no room for expansion.
The new site is just under five hectares in size.
The plans also include the provision of a full-size GAA pitch, and a play-court area
