Midlands Town Facing Major Job Losses

Fastway Couriers' parent company is pointing to inflation, rising costs, and market pressure.

Workers in the Midlands are facing a significant number of job losses.

Delivery firm Nuvion Group, which owns Fastway Couriers in Portarlington, is entering into receivership.

It's believed up to 200 jobs connected with the Fastway Portarlington operation are set to be lost.

Hundreds more subcontractor and franchisee roles could also be affected.

Nuvion blames inflation, rising costs and market pressures for its collapse, as receivers have been appointed.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is reminding online customers their contract is with retailers, not couriers. 

It says it is the retailer's responsibility to address any delay, damage or non-delivery, and orders should be delivered within 30 days unless otherwise agreed.

If the delivery can't be rearranged, consumers have the right to cancel their order due to non-delivery and receive a full refund. 

A group representing hauliers is blaming the high tax burden on the industry for the situation at Fastway Couriers.

Up to 200 jobs in Portarlington is likely to be lost as its parent company Nuvion is going into receivership.
