Emergency services found the body of Adina Raluca Constantin when they were called to a house on Church St. in Portlaoise shortly after midday on Sunday.
A technical exam was carried out on the scene and the State Pathologist was notified.
Reports indicate Ms Constantin was stabbed by her attacker.
The man is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning at 10.30am.
