Emergency services were alerted to a fatal assault in Laois when a pensioner called telling them he had done serious harm to a woman, according to the Irish Independent.
Her body was found in a shower in a home on Church Street in Portlaoise on Sunday afternoon.
The 50 year old woman, who has since been named locally as Adina Constantin, suffered fatal stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 70s is due before Portlaoise District Court in relation to the incident this morning.
