John Hickey, with an address at Beechlawn, Killane, Edenderry appeared before Tullamore District Court yesterday.
He is accused of dangerous driving causing the death of Anthony Leavy at Clonmeen, Rhode on June 14th last.
Judge Catherine Staines heard the Director of Prosecutions had directed that the 68 year old be prosecuted by indictment.
Gardaí made no objection to bail.
Judge Staines remanded the accused on continuing bail and he is due to appear before her again on February 5th next for service of a book of evidence.
