Abbatoirs, meat processing factories and dairies need to screen their workers for fever on their way into work.

Trade union Siptu says airport-style temperature scanners should be installed to detect possible cases of COVID-19.

It comes after Dawn Meats in Kilbeggan closed on May 1st after four confirmed cases.

There are six known clusters at meat plants, and the HSE's set up a committee on controlling infection which has started drawing up guidelines.

Siptu Organiser Greg Ennis says the scanners are commercially available and would be a highly effective way of protecting workers:
