According to the Irish Independent, new figures reveal nationally the HSE spent almost €959.5m on agency staff in 2025, despite a Government recruitment embargo remaining in place.
The Midlands and Dublin together account for half of all over budget agency spending this year.
The HSE says it is working to reduce agency costs through a multi year plan aimed at bringing spending below the €720m target by 2027/28.
