He's been a member of Offaly County Council since 2019.
A midlands councillor has announced he's stepping away from the local authority due to health difficulties.
Independent rep Ken Smollen was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of this year, which he says was a "huge shock."
He was elected to Offaly County Council in 2019, and says he's proud of the work he's achieved in the Tullamore Municipal District in that time.
But, Councillor Smollen says he needs to "stay away from the phone, the internet and meetings" if he wants to recover, and has announced he will resign at the next monthly meeting of the local authority.
He will also propose his wife, Sandy Feehan - Smollen should take his place.
