It was opened by the Tánaiste this afternoon.
A new Daycare centre has been officially opened in the midlands.
The facility will be operated by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, and was opened by the Tánaiste, Micheal Martin, this afternoon.
It will cater to 30 people per week, with four carers and a manager working at the centre.
An estimated 1,154 people are living with dementia in Westmeath and an estimated 578 in Longford, and the number of people living with dementia is expected to double by 2050.
Micheal Martin says it's another step in the development of dementia services:
Head of Operations at The ASI, Siobhan O’Connor, said:
"We are thrilled to open this new daycare centre in Multyfarnham. This facility will provide much-needed support and a day respite for people with dementia and their carers in the local community. We are grateful to all the local support attributed to this opening, especially the Franciscan Order, who have provided this beautiful location. The HSE in CH08 supported this project right from the beginning, and also a huge thanks to our ASI team, who have made it all happen."
