Midlands Defence Expert Questions Triple Lock

Westmeath's Declan Power appeared before the Defence and National Security Committee yesterday.

A midlands defence expert feels the 'Triple Lock' is compromising Ireland's foreign policy objectives.

A Defence Amendment bill is being proposed which would remove UN approval to send Irish troops on foreign missions.

If passed, it would mean only Dail approval will be needed, and the number of troops that can be deployed without a vote would increase from 12 to 50.
