Longford/Westmeath TD Peter Burke is making the comments after a meeting between Leo Varadkar and Michael Martin last night.

A Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael TD insists it's not possible to 'wind down' the government and have a long general election campaign.

There was no clarity on when the election would take place after a meeting between the Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader last night.

Leo Varadkar and Micheal Martin both said the meeting was 'constructive', and that they'd meet again next week.
